Frame Trap - Episode 2 "What in the World is Wrong With Warcraft?"

Salutations! Frame Trap episode two is finally here and (hopefully) much improved from episode one. We have mics so no more weird audio issues. The YouTube video has timestamps. Of course, if you do notice anything, please let us know (other than Ben mispronouncing Nostalrius. He feels really bad about it).

As for what's discussed, we argue over the state of World of Warcraft, share our hopes for Game of Thrones season six, and laugh at how Brandon Jones torments children. The episode is now live on YouTube and SoundCloud. It should be on iTunes within the next 12 hours or so.

EDIT: It's already on iTunes! https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/frame-trap/id1102642377?mt=2

Frame Trap - Episode 2 "What in the World is Wrong With Warcraft?"

When you guys where talking about franchise fatigue and other issues in long running franchises I was screaming Halo! Specially when people get mad when you don't change it AND then later do they still complaining. Halo 5 plays the best of all the halo games but the main campaing is a mess. Halo 4 had a great one that atleast to me felt like a true love letter to the fans and the gameplay hadn't changed that much from Reach. It was still sad to see Halo becoming a follower than a leader but with Halo 5 things are looking up.

Hey guys! what do you guys think the Playstation 4K and Xbox 1.5 will mean for the success of the NX?

Ben, do you have too many emails? Would that be why you don't post the email on these posts? I'm almost hesitant to send my own email, but I'll send one anyways :) .

Ben, can you please discuss Elder Scrolls III Morrowind ?I feel like this game doesn't get enough love, and I am so sick of the Nord fest that is Skyrim being the star of the Elder scrolls series because it the most accessible. I miss spell making, there was such a joy in the freedom of making a jump spell that launched you so far you had no chance of surviving the landing!

Chip Damage Mike

Ben to Brandon about microtransactions: "These rumors are exaggerated." *Watches Ben open 150 packs of cards in Hearthstone in complete ecstasy..." I can confirm that the rumors are nót exaggerated.

How bad are you guys gonna feel when the next time you see bosman he's playing bloodborne while enjoying an episode of this podcast. As if...

couldn't agree more with you on Harry Potter Brandon. Absolute gutter trash, completely un-watchable for me after the Prisoner of Azkaban

Great show guys! I've never played an MMO, because I'm a console gamer for decades, but I've always been interested in them, because I love RPG's. Ben, for you what makes a good MMO? What MMO would you recommend for someone starting in the genre, and why so many people say Destiny or the Division are not MMO's?

Miguel Pires Ramos

my god how i hate people praising resident evil 4. the only thing it did is started killing the franchise. its a 3rd person shooter with terrible controls. i might be one elitist guy who doesnt understand something. but for me RE series is exploring, solving puzzle finding ways to progress, tension, scares, being afraid to open doors, RE 4 has none of that. it has a very long escort quest and a huge amount of undeserved praise. ad further more other games started following this formula and RE4 is the bane of all triple a horror games just like call of duty's popularity and success is killing the FPS genre.

Vytautas Jarmalis

Good WOW talk/critics. I also played wow from the start and I stopped playing after BC. Now the game is dead to me, I tried picking it up again lately but it was a waste of time and money. The mentioned changes killed the game. For me wow lost its "soul". The sense of exploring is gone, the thrill of dungeons is gone, the world pvp like it was at Terran Mill is gone, and so forth... The main reason why they forced this vanilla server to close is simple because this server gained more and more players over time. People who were not getting the MMO experience they wanted from current wow format realized vanilla is more fun. I could talk about wow and why I do not play anymore for days. I try to remember the good times and how much fun I had out of the game for a lot of time. Good episode and Ben you do a superb job as a moderator. so long, Rudolf.

You guys should do a discuss episode about dark souls 3, with spoilers.

Great episode. I especially love the amount of love RE4 got. And I got to say this because it popped right into my head when you were discussing the email and maybe Brandon can share that impression, but Red Dead Revolver to me is a game that gets completely overshadowed by Redemption, like 100% (even to the point where Brandon couldn't even think of it, or perhaps he just didn't like it a lot). Sure, Redemption is a much better game in every respect, it's incredible what they did with Redemption, but Revolver is still a good game. It kind of upsets me that so many people do not even know that Red Dead is a series and not just short for Red Dead Redemption. I guess Revolver didn't really get lots of love when it came out because at the time there were other games in that genre (3rd person shooter) that were just better and Redemption with its GTA-esque formula hit a nerve at release and got insanely popular really fast. Also people didn't bother to check out Revolver after playing Redemption because the games are not really connected and very different in terms of... well, pretty much everything and R* (probably for the better) treated Redemption like a standalone game and not the second game in a franchise (and well, Revolver was a PS2/Xbox game), but I still think that Revolver deserves at least some love.

Deathwing's original name was Neltharion, so you were close. Nefarion was from Black Wing Lair.

That sort of logic might only be valid if people didn't nauseatingly all the reasons why vanilla WoW was superior and there wasn't until recently a private server with more than one hundred thousand people existed that only ran vanilla WoW. There have been times where I've had some idealized notion of a game I've played in the past, thinking how superior it is to modern games, play it and realize how depressed it was to my memory, in which I realize that the game was once very good but hasn't aged well, or that I appreciated it because my taste was too limited. I don't know what the average play time was for this now defunct private server, but I imagine there are plenty of people who stuck with the game not our of nostalgia but because they actually enjoyed it.

Cheers for reading out my story about hotake getting mixed up with scallops, Ben! A good episode again, although I'm not the biggest GoT fan so there were parts I couldn't really identify with, but it's cool you have a show to talk about that stuff now!

Chris Orr

I want Huber to play Awesomenauts Assemble. Someone popular is eventually going to play it and rave about it then it's going to blow up. Might as well be Huber. It's been out for 4 years it's time has come.

Totally agree with Huber on GoT. Season 5 totally disconnected me emotionally. There was no one left to root for. No cause to get behind. Having seen the first episode of season 6 I'm back in the game. Not only did more happen on that one episode than in the whole of the last season combined, I left looking forward to episode 2 and wanting to know what will happen to each of the characters. My gut tells me that we are back on track. That there is much to be invested in and that this will be the best season yet. Fingers crossed.

Alex Moscow

Comment for Huber about the show... hopefully he'll at least see it ;)

Hey there! :) I was watching FrameTrap where you speak about difficulty and using a walkthrough, and I Completely agree!! I used to be against them as well... but since my wife and I play so much game and we want to 100% most of them without playing it for months... we use walkthrough a lot of the time to be sure not to miss anything :) ... We started playing DarkSouls3 yesterday... and as with all DS games, we're playing it with an awesome trainer! :)
Infinite Stamina, No Weight, No Durability, 100% Drop Rate and Souls Don't drop on Death...
It is a COMPLETELY different game! and we're having fun... no stress... just exploring this crazy world! ;)

Question: What is the first VR game you guys would like to review and/or stream for all of us to laugh at? And are you in the process of figuring out how to incorporate VR into your shows? - Darth Smurf X

I really loved hearing about Huber drunk. Probably my favorite part of the show. Also really enjoyed the discussion about WoW and MMO's. Solid stuff!

Funny that Brad gets annoyed about Kyle playing Bloodborne with podcasts when I'm listening to this while playing Dark Souls III :P

I love this show. Truly great. I would say it's my favorite on Easy Allies and that's saying something.

Daniel Ray

This is quickly becoming my favourite show! Ben has the blend between structure and looseness just right.

It's ok, Ben. Robotech is western filth cobbled together from multiple anime. Just watch Super Dimension Fortress Macross instead.

Minamik

I have a question for Huber -- What do you think of Ridley Scott basically stopping what was going to be a new Alien movie so he can do Prometheus 2. Now I don't know what your thoughts are on Prometheus, but I was much more looking forward to a new Alien film with Ripley. Made me think of the question saying how you'll always support the creator, but I feel James Cameron should get as much credit for the Alien legacy as Ridley.

Daniel Ray

I agree that Mists of Pandaria would have fit better in between Lich King and Cataclysm. I also think that after Cataclysm the right move would have been to tackle the actual Burning Legion, and finally be done with it, but hey...Dolla dolla bills y'all!

Minamik

Loved the podcast Ben, I was very excited to hear a more in depth take on the state of World of Warcraft from you guys. On any given weekend where I am surrounded by close friends and someone brings up WoW I instantly get very worked up about it. I generally agreed with what you guys said and ultimately feel this game just needs to end. Anywho, I love this podcast and am excited to see more.

Sean Barrett

I agree with Huber about GoT. Season 5 felt cheap in comparison to its previous seasons. The finale was built upon fan-servicy coincidences and the writers would slam on the brakes to keep all the major stuff from happening until the very last minute. And now most of the characters have become predictable line dispensers. Daenerys: "I should have you killed." Cersi: "I'd do anything for my children." Jaime: "Fuck everyone that isn't us" (basically reverting back to the same person he was in S1E1). The show is as good as lost without Martin.

So what I got from this is that I should definitely play RE6.

Derrick DesRoches

Love it. I love that you aren't afraid to keep it games only. You guys are all interesting people, so hearing your thoughts on other topics like Game of Thrones is a delight. Great job Ben.

The Hashtagonist

20:33 Huber, I know exactly how to feel. I tried to play Dark Souls the other night with my son running around and my girlfriend watching something in the background. I have to have no distractions, it has to be dark, and I have to have some chocolate milk. Dark Souls is one of those games that I have to devote my full concentration to.

Admittedly I cheated in The Witness.... I would normally never cheat, I hate cheaters, I'm the kind of guy who plays Fallout 4 on Survival Mode... and The Witcher 3 on Hard from the get - go. Played and beat Bloodborne and generally enjoy the Souls series.... but the end of the jungle area in The WItness with the squawking / chirping speakers was just too annoying... it wasn't a brain test at the end of that section, it was a hearing test. Perhaps this is still not acceptable, I don't know.

Mitchell Collier

Amazing episode, though sometimes you just start cooking when you talk about some stuff (Jones talking Lord of the rings for example) , there's no more frustrating feeling than being behind a computer screen not being able to hop in the conversation and express your opinion lol but that's just how it is. Fantastic show

Loved the show btw.

Andrew Mac

The final trophy for Platinum in The Witness is a series of randomized super hard mazes that have to be solved to a 7 or 8 minute time limit. As such although walkthroughs exist where people complete this section by it's very nature they do not provide a solution merely an example of what to expect.

Andrew Mac

I think it's meant as more of an inside joke for them than a fighting game term. They used the term while playing fighting games, but they basically made it mean whatever they wanted it to mean, and that meaning does fit this show. They talk a lot about games, but they also talk about movies and TV shows. Like the show title, the show itself can be about whatever they want it to be about. It's a more open ended show while the main podcast is expected to cover gaming news.

PURE GOLD! the 4 ppl I find the most entertaining talking free form, PLEASE keep this up,a absolutely awesome show, Ben! Been with GT since 2005ish and this is BY FAR my fav segment to date!

I love this podcast so much! Even though im not interested in Wow or GoT at all, i really enjoyed listening to it. But here is one big thing i need to say. I wished this was a non rotating podcast. I like all of you guys so much, but the first ensamble was just a magical constellation! Plus you already got a rotating EZA podcast. Again, no offens to Brandon, Blood or anyone. Id just really like this one to be a constant, never changing system :) Love & Respect!

...I´m with Huber here...Season 3 of Game of Thrones was the best I have seen on TV since X-Files Season 4... :)...Game of Thrones Season 4 was okay-ish...Season 5 was yeah...whatever...I lost the emotional connection to that show...

Will frame trap be on Stitcher?

Claus Larsen

This was an awesome episode! I had a lot of the same experiences you guys discussed. With WoW I was invested up through Wrath but just sort-of lost interest in everything past that. Final Fantasy 6 was definitely overshadowed by 7. I loved 7 but 6 got me emotionally invested in a way that 7 never managed. Game of Thrones season 5 left me feeling completely flat and uninterested. Hoping things will improve with season 6. Also, I just played through Alan Wake for the first time this last weekend. I didn't have much in the way of expectations for that game. Kinda surprised to hear there were people who didn't like it. I really enjoyed the game.

Thorfkin

Oh cool a Warcraft discussion! Even more excited!!!

1:19:55 Jones my boy! Ben you make me sick had me Laughing so hard, re-watched that several times.

cnote51

Love the name, I'M caught in the frame trap!

Chip Damage Mike

I know you like fighting games, but the name is stupid... LOVE the show, I just want it to reach a broader audience, and with a better name it might be easier for people to spread the word :))) I dont't play Street Fighter so I had to look up what 'frame trap' meant I dont think it fits your show... Thats all I gotta say. LOVE the show though! Please keep it up!

Ian Patterson esquire.

Is the show going to continue as a every 2 week thing or will it move to a weekly show?

The title of this video makes it very unappealing.

Sometimes I say sorry in Hearthstone when I took too long to take my turn...mostly when playing in class and I need to pay attention for a minute. I will miss that emote

I have a different opinion on the WoW thing. The existence of a lot of people that enjoy vanilla WoW does not mean the current WoW is bad. Aside from any other factors, the fatigue really cannot be underestimated for WoW, that's why the decline curve for each expansion is sharper. I don't think WoD post-release content is worse than any previous expansion. As for the vanilla thing, I think it's simply an issue of nostalgia. This does not apply only to WoW, but many many games. A lot of people just want to go back and experience the nostalgia of the first time they played an awesome game, coz it's always the strongest time for passion for the game. For WoW or any MMO, I believe that feeling is even amplified. So I don't believe people go to private servers becasue the game now is bad, I think saying "vanilla WoW is better than WoW now" is a very very hard argument to win objectively. You just felt better playing it then coz of a bunch of reasons unrelated to the game being better or worse than it is now, the biggest ones being fatigue, losing your friends you played with, and the unmatched feeling of experiencing/exploring an MMO for the first time.

Ahmad Sammy

Where's the EZA Galaxy of Heroes guild Jones???

Beneta

yyyyyyy

Showed up on my iTunes before this post even showed up for me. Great episode! I personally loved the love on this episode (no offense to Ian and Kyle as mentioned XD).
