Hyper Light Drifter Review

Our third review is now up - first one from Bloodworth. Not a bad game to start with.

Hyper Light Drifter Review

Dang it Blood, I don't have time for another game!! This looks great!

I like the amount of silence in this review, letting the soundtrack shine through. Absolutely haunting.

Update. It seems like there will be no Wii U version due to some backdoor shady deals!!! This sucks!

Rui Fidalgo

I think there's no release date atm.

Rui Fidalgo

I'm really digging the look of the main character. I feel like I need an anime starting this dude.

Does anyone know the release date for PS4?

Daniel Ray

I'm continuously surprised at how much content you guys are getting out. I thought reviews would have been sparse, and we would be so lucky to get 1-2 or a month. But you guys are really working hard, and putting out a consistent schedule of reviews. While it would be impossible to cover every game, this gives me confidence you guys will be hitting most of the major games that people care about. And that's a really big deal (and I think it will continue to attract more Patron supporters and and an audience). Seriously, keep up the great work guys.

Ah, just saw your updated reply. Yeah, I think the fact that Bloodworth has an entire career to back up his credibility, goes a long way with regards to his audience trusting him. I do agree that if Ian was reviewing it, then he should absolutely disclose his relationship. And I think he would. But in this case, he had nothing to do with the review, and had zero influence. And so I don't think it was necessary. I will say, everyone at Easy Allies has friends in the industry (just like an publication). It would be nearly impossible to go an entire year without reviewing something that a friend worked on. But the crew has demonstrated for years, that they are trustworthy and are just giving their own honest opinions. I do understand your original post though, and agree that any time a reviewer is REALLY close with the person that made the the thing they are reviewing, it should be disclosed to the audience.

@Dafydd I couldn't reply to you, but absolutely not :) I also heard from Blood and he said Ian had no part with the video or review.

Tyler Travis

Do you actually think Ian's friendship with the developer would influence Bloodworth's review though?

Dafydd Gape

Nice. Got a better idea of the game now. Probably a buy.

MrNiggol

I love the review and think it is fair, I just think it should be noted somewhere that Ian is friends with the Developer :)

Good review. I'm waiting for the wii u release cause I want to play it on the gamepad. Kudos for the top quality edit!

Rui Fidalgo

Looks awesome. Will play at some point.

Good review - and a game that I would like to try. I only miss a mention of the questionable "performance" (30fps), and how it affects responsiveness in the twitch based combat. Not that it was necessarily a condemning property, but I reckon it is worth mentioning as a warning for people who are sensitive to that.

Leif

Great!

good review, I might pick it up some time : )

I am waiting for the Ps4 release, but I am tempted to play on my pc instead. This game looks amazing.

Backed this game on Kickstarter back in 2013, really glad the wait was worth it. Now the only thing missing is a release date for the PS4 version...

Great review, Blood. Liked your emphasis on how the game feels as a whole.

Different games. "Hyper Light Drifter" seems very much about style and atmosphere, and Bloodworth/Jones put more emphasis on actually showing (instead of describing) that. Seems like the type of game that is hard to pitch/review with words alone. As a result, I thought the writing was adequately restrained in this case. Wouldn't work if it wasn't published as a video-review, of course.

Quantum and dark souls was better written i think O.o

Such an amazing looking game, oozing with style.

Loved the review. Thanks, Daniel and Brandon!! I was on the edge of buying it (seeing as I'm already busy with Dark Souls 3 and XCOM 2). You just convinced me this game need its own time to be appreciate. Will wait probably until its first discount (it's not like it's expensive, anyway) and I have a bit less games on hand.

Solid review, getting this game now when it hits PS4

Still the best game this year. Bloodborne is the only game that comes close for me.

Already in love with the music

Finished it this weekend. Pretty much agree, nice review.

Excellent VO Brandon! Good details on the pros and cons Blood! Looking forward to playing it on PS4!

Where would I be without my EZA reviews, missed you guys. This game looks great thanks for shinning a light on it. Great work B&J!

That's the watermark on the YouTube channel. It's not actually in the video itself. I'm honestly not sure why it appears some times, but not others.

Easy Allies

Great review..you rock Blood! Kinda liked how on Quantum Break Review you had the EZA stamp on the lower right hand corner of the frame! What happened to it and what was the reason why yall took it away!?!

Hell of a game

LiquidEnder

Great review guys! I can't believe how much I missed these sweet review videos. Blood, fantastic, succinct review! Brandon, beautiful editing job for a beautiful game. Keep up the great work boys! (PS - any chance of a Salt & Sanctuary review or has the ship sailed on that one?)

Superb editing, as usual.

That music hypnotized me, I didn't realize Jones wasn't talking for like 20 secs.

I may not buy every game you review but I'll definately be watching all of them!

Dee

Is there any release date for ps4? Looks awesome.

Game looks rad! Hopefully it doesn't get lost in the flood of Spring games. Thanks for the review, fellas.
