Frame Trap - Episode 1 "What Do We Want Out of Final Fantasy XV?"

Hello patrons! Ben here. I'm so excited to share the first episode of our second podcast with you. It's called "Frame Trap" and I'm the host. The goal of the podcast is to offer longer, more casual conversations about a variety of topics. Expect each bi-weekly episode to be around two hours. If possible, I'll try and rotate the cast each week. The first episode includes Michael Huber, Bradley Ellis, Kyle Bosman, and myself.

On the show, we'll talk about what we've been playing, read user emails, and focus on one or two big topics. In episode one, we dig deep into Final Fantasy XV and spend a lot of time analyzing the latest rumors about the upcoming Legend of Zelda.

One week, the big topic may be a game we're all particularly passionate about like Dark Souls or Persona. Another week, the topics could include a current trend or new piece of hardware. Keep in mind that I also want to encourage tangents. On this episode, Huber tries his best to sell the joys of professional wrestling. Since the show is bi-weekly, there's a lot of time to incorporate YOUR feedback. What do you want us to talk about? How can I switch up the show to be even more entertaining? Let me know!

If you'd like your email featured on the show or if you simply want to offer a comment, please email askeasyallies@gmail.com.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We're in the process of getting the podcast approved on iTunes. In the meantime, you can listen to the audio version on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-50492631/frame-trap-episode-1

IMPORTANT NOTE 2: The audio isn't perfect on the first episode. We're in the process of getting more equipment to make things sound better. I greatly appreciate your patience.

Thanks and I sincerely hope you enjoy the first episode.

Frame Trap - Episode 1 "What Do We Want Out of Final Fantasy XV?"

Comments

I would buy a Lore Whore shirt

I love this more relaxed podcast, but the Battleborn dogging hurts. I played the beta with my friends and it's been some of the most fun we've had together in ages. Maybe that's because we didn't play much multiplayer, but we had so much fuc trying out the different characters and going through the campaign, Every victory felt hard fought and having a set number of lives put stakes on the missions. A lot of the other characters also had much less dude bro tones...

I'm a bit late to the party but I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the podcast. Excellent job hosting Ben!

Christoph Zürcher

Hey guys. I love this new podcast. What am I saying, I love everything you guys do. :) One thing I noticed though was that mic you're using is a stereo mic. And while listening with headphones that puts Kyle's voice on the right and Ben's on the left. Opposite of the video. No biggie just wanted to point it out. Keep it up guys. All of us patrons are beyond happy to have you all as a group back together again. :) Love and Respect

Great first episode! Really enjoyed the discussions, always feel bad that i can't chime in though q.q but i had a lot of fun watching this one. Just need to fix that audio quality ;P

What a great show! Congrats on your first podcast Ben! Content like this is what makes me tell EA has a whole to just take my money!

Chip Damage Mike

This was actually good I was worried because of the runtime but this was good. Kind of a mix of GT Time and ManUp Nights. Definetly going to watch the next episode good job guys I laughed so many times during this!

Samuli Vuorinen

There are so many aspects in coming to a concrete conclusion as to what might draw us to the games we play. I've enjoyed games for reasons that contradict why I will play one game, and not another, even though both might offer an aspect I'm gravitated to. I love Zelda as well, and I've played almost every game. Though I could not get through the DS games, I still gleaned some positives in my play sessions. I don't like open world games, and will still give a game like Skyrim a try, but refuse to play Fallout (past Fallout 3, cause 1 & 2 were awesome). One may never fully know what draws them to any particular game, but searching and discovering games makes the pull towards them worth it.

I've recently played a round of Incursion on Battleborn that lasted 26 minutes and was some of the most intense MOBA action I've ever played!

Great podcast. Glad there can be more than one podcast that can incorporate groups and debates and jolly conversation. I agree with Huber's opinion of Battleborn, to a point. Yes, the humor is juvenile. Though I haven't noticed too many terrible lines being Marquis. The gameplay can go back and forth for me, and most of the time the imbalance of matches is more obnoxious than Battlefront. If any of the Allies could take aspects of Battleborn and the upcoming Overwatch and mix them into a delicious stu of multi-player goodness, from what aspects would you pluck from which games?

Excellent job Ben. The comments you picked were fantastic and I loved the conversation that you instigate. Everybody keep up the good work you make me happy on a daily basis

"Hotake" should definitely be on some merch.

I thought Type-0 was the best FF game since X, and the proper evolution between the older style and the newer style that XV is pushing. It had everything that makes Final Fantasy great, things that were missing from 11-14, plus a version of the new fighting system that was very solid. It was really fun and the story was DARK which I loved

Max Miller

Hi Ben (hope you'll still get to read this)! You asking the guys where they were when VsXIII got announced and their plans for release made me think about where I was, how much i changed and especially where i'll be when it comes out, since it's going to be a CULMINATION of many things in my life: i'll graduate from university in college in Fall, and to celebrate i'll be travelling all around Japan (for the 1st time!) for research, from September 7th guess what the 30th. If time-zones allow it, i'll actually try to partecipate at both the Day 1 in Japan (with those famous queues) and then in my home country. Then, after three exhausting weeks, i'll arrive at the airport and what will await me? My best friends, and the game i've been most awaiting for the past decade. Just wanted to tell you how much of a "religious experience" this will be for me too!

My take aways from this show. Like Kyle, I will play zelda picross as soon as I get the damn 1000 coins; HD remake, not so much. I still have my gamecube disc, I can play that one. I had no problem with the control scheme of zelda ds; I enjoyed those games so much. Ben, you are right on the money with games are not supposed to only make you feel powerful. I told a friend countless times how great resident evil 4 was and his replay was: I don't like to be scared by a game, I play to have fun". Dude, it's so much fun, the scary parts just add to it! You reminded me of that episode of my life. Great work guys. Ben, I salute you. Great first ep, and you are only starting.

César Villa

Love the show. Keep the good vibe :)

Loved the first episode. Great podcast! Fun times and self reflection.

Great show! GIVE US MOREEEEEE

Unsure if you'll count this as NOA, but Xenoblade had great VO. One thing I don't agree with - is when Ben says I'm a coward if I don't want to play Dark Souls. It's just not my type of game.

Pet Rent is So Dumb

That was so great ! Love it ! The chairs seem uncomfortable though. Lounge in the bedroom or something... ;)

Leif

Loved this! This is what I've missed most from you guys. Just good, long conversations about games, and our feelings towards them. I would also like to say something about Metal Gear Solid V: TPP. I agree, that it has its dissappointing elements, BUT, I've just completed my second playthrough, and I enjoyed it more than my first, because this time I knew how to manage my expectations. My goal for the second playthrough was to squeeze every last drop of lore out of the game (while also perfecting my stealth-playstyle), and I have to say, that it turned into quite a good time for me. Spending an hour or three doing missions, then taking a half our break, grab some snacks (or a cup of coffee and a cigarette, whatever you're into) and listen to casette tapes. The voice acting on those tapes is absolutely top tier! So yeah: loved the podcast, looking very much forward to next episode, and maybe give MGSV a second chance. (Also, I'm a huge fan of the HOTAKE! segment.) Love & respect! <3 -dzachh

Hey Ben, wonderful discussion as always. Is it possible that the audio channels are the opposite of what should've been? I seriously hear you at the left and Brad at the center-left beside you. Kyle at the right and Huber to right-center. Also, its not that problematic, but I would like a bit less swearing. You guys are mature and grounded so the swearing while talking normally doesn't suit you at all. I am not talking about the ones where you get passionate enough that it feels right, I actually adore them. It's just sometimes there are swearing for no reason that is awkward. Love you all.

Hotake! Guys what a show, so very good, love it

Mario Oporto

Awesome podcast guys. Not sure about the name though.

Andrew Chalmers

You should rename this podcast "Hotake!" (with the exclamation point)

Allard

Guys can you turn the mike around or flip the audio channels. We see Kyle on the left and ben on the right yet the audio is the other way round.

Trashy Nu Metal song in Doom trailer was Refused - Not a bad song in itself - but I agree really badly used in that context

This was awesome! Loved the conversations, the candor and the topics, really great stuff!

Richard Goetz

10/10, encore.

It was a very insightful conversation, that also shows the growth in tastes and expectations in regards to games. It really shows games are not only about fun, they're about emotions. However I do want to comment that games as an experience also still has a lot of value to me. There's a tendency now to call a game feeling gamey like in a derogatory way. I mean for example Zelda, I just beat Twilight Princess HD and still think is a good game despite not carrying the awe and greatness it carried on its release. There's some context I didn't saw on previous playthroughs since NPCs do have different dialog at different points in the game, the map while barren has a lot of stuff to and while stamp achievements might not be to much at least it's better than the rupees they gave before. So I don't know I like games to move forward but I also like when they stay true to their roots not just in concept but in game design foundations.

Gonzalo Ruiz

This podcast was incredible..

great job all! love it when kyle gets up on the chair, reminds me of last E3

loooove 2 hours

This podcast was seriously fantastic. Excited for the next one and for the improved audio :)

PARAGON IS INCREDIBLE! Love the new podcast btw

Jack Cullen

2 hours of awesome. Great job guys, looking forward to the next

best podcast guys

YOU GUYS! This was GREAT!

Chris Georgaras

That's what I wonder with everyone making the comment of the female option being it's own character. I mean I know Toon Link had it's own personality, Twilight Link and Skyward Link were ok, but I just don't see the need to change that much. I mean we also have had characters ruined by overcharacterization like Samus or Gabriel Belmont or Ryu Hayabusa.

Gonzalo Ruiz

i really enjoyed this podcast. I really enjoy longer podcasts

Chun Lau

Loving it. Much more of a friends having a conversation type show so you get to hear a lot more personal or subjective thoughts because they are less forced / filtered. Great job guys!

What a beast of a podcast, woah! Keep it up, fellas

Greeeeeeeeeat podcast. For the record I've never purchased a Final Fantasy game. I plan on watching all of the anime AND the movie. I also purchased the UEC. I've watched friends play every Final Fantasy and have watched over again on twitch, with GT and will watch more when EZA streams again. I never played them because I HATE turn based play. FF15 finally looks like a Final Fantasy that I can play. Just because I haven't played doesn't mean I don't have the love!! Ff15 means I can finally throw my arms around Final Fantasy and make it my own along with those who have invested in it for years!

Impact93 (Jon)

Ace, really like the format of the second podcast. Great work Ben :D With Skyward Sword, there were so many unnecessary things involving motion, I really liked its use in combat but things like flapping the Loftwing felt weird, like aren't I controlling Link why am I flapping like Balloon Kid? I liked the Platinum Demo a lot, for some reason it reminded me a lot of the early part of Kingdom Hearts 1, warm and fuzzy feelings throughout the first section, and then when you're small in the second section, brought back this feeling like Wonderland. The combat was a bit weird, it's different to Episode Duscae so I'm a little confused as to exactly how the combat will function now. (In Ep Duscae, Noctis' weapon changed depending on which phase of attacking you were in, or if you used an aerial or counter).

Daniel Wong

Good job Ben. great podcast

Loved this podcast!! And hotake was hilarious.. Have to agree with huber on the mgs4.. So jolly.. Johnny is a good guy and he actually does some heroic things

About playing a girl in the legend of Zelda, my opinion on this is a question: How much does Link contributes as a character besides "stares". That is all.

Eduardo Ortiz

Very good! Definitely would want to see a stream with Ben teaching SF5 to the other Allies and taking it online!

Great work, love the idea. Ben, you make a great host!

Loved loved loved loved it. Now we have two great podcasts who are different enough from each other. The Hotake award goes to you Ben👍🏻

uuuuuummmm.... Snake isn't at the wedding...

This was really good! The name of the show, should simply be "The Second Podcast" or "The Other Podcast"

Thore Dørup

"Refused - New Noise" is a LEGENDARY HARDCORE PUNK SONG. Nu Metal has nothing to do with it.

I am now fully convinced that Ben Moore is not a game journalist from Iowa. He is an undercover theoretical psychologist from Maine who has spent many years researching the mind of the perfect candidate, Kyle Bosman.

Love the long form podcast, keep em' coming!

Jason Walstrom

This is my new favourite show. Congrats and Thank you!

Great Episode!!! I like the format. Keep it up.

A great and competent replacement to ManUp Nights. Two hours is a solid length for this more freeform sort of podcast, definitely hope you keep it right there for future episodes. Any longer and things might get sort of too open-ended.

One word, INTIMATE. Loved it. Thanks guys. Ps. You should've edit in some frame before the spoiler.

Double the podcasts, double the fun! Thank you for warning about spoilers ahead of those discussions.

Awsome! The only way it could have been better, is if at some point Damiani would just entered the room and sat down.

awful name but great show, loved the discussion!

sam

Really loved the first episode and how natural it felt. Keep up the good work Ben and everyone.

Marcos C.

Really dig the conversational tone of this podcast - it's good to have two sides of the coin: The heavily structured Easy Allies Podcast, and the fast-and-loose style of Frame Trap. Great kick-off for this episode guys!

Tuesday's are awesome now. I get PS I Love You XOXO and now this. Well done, gang!

Shane Sanders

I had a fly in the soup experience with Gran Turismo 5. I love the interior view and the second tier cars with blacked out interiors took me totally out of it. With all the time they took for that game I expected better.

yeah I like hearing Jones on his thoughts with current Final Fantasy games - I will admit because I share his opinion lol

alan roosen

Thanks for the show, guys. I really liked this format. Speaking of just dumping time into games, thanks for keeping me company while going from Botanist Level 2 to Botanist Level 15 in Final Fantasy XIV. SO MANY CROW FEATHERS.

Will the show include Jones and Blood? I have a feeling that you have some conflicting philosophy with Jones(he's kind of have more traditional view)

Wicky "Pokkuti" Salsa

Great work, Ben. Didn't expect to stay with you for the whole 2 hours but the conversation was good enough to stick it through to the end. Well done: allies. One ask: would it be possible to create time stamps in the YouTube description for when certain topics are discussed? Love what you guys have to say about most topics, but two hours is a long time when viewers might only be interested in one or two things.

Shane Riczu

On some pre-EZA streams they would joke about Frame Traps in SFV, then it became like a regular joke on streams, so I guess it came from there

The inverter audio is mind boggling

Shubham Goyal

The Last of Us comic is set before the DLC not in between the main game and DLC. Nice try Huber ;-) The story focuses on *spoilers* Ellie in the military school, how she ends up meeting Riley and them exploring the Mall together.

Rhys Simons

How'd you come up with the name? I'll listen to a podcast in between loading times or activities. I played the Battleborn beta right after Huber talked about it and I didn't like it. It did feel outdated to me. Charizard is my favorite final form of the original 3 but Squirtle is my favorite starter. The combat in the Platinum demo made me lose any interest I had for FFXV. Great new podcast, can't wait for the next ep.

NeO JD

Literally burned a gig and a half overage watching this on the road, so I spent almost as much in overage as I do to you guys monthly for the Patreon. Totally worth it. Also, wrestling is Anime... I think I finally get it.

After watching Cup o' Jones and then Frame Trap (?) today, I have a few thoughts: Brandon talked about you guys wanting to give us what we want, and create something of value to both yourselves and us – This is that. I can't speak for the EZA patrons in general, but certainly from the comments I've read and my own perspective, it's this long-form but focused setup that really brings out the best in the Allies. I know Ben's idea is to have a much less formulaic podcast than Kyle's, and this is, but it's also important to note that he still masterfully reigns in topics and keeps on point when necessary, and that management is what makes this kind of content really work. Another thing that I particularly like about Frame Trap is the potential to get a real in-depth chat on subjects that aren't particularly of-the-moment, and I think we'd all love to hear the Allies use this to express themselves on many areas of the video game community, perhaps in a more theoretical way than on other shows. I guess what I'm trying to say is keeping the topics varied in terms of which games you focus on etc will be a really good way to showcase what you guys think of a wide variety of subjects, perhaps outside of your no.1 passions – not that you shouldn't talk about your obsessions (like nintendo/FF) a lot because you're really engaging when you do (and really educate the likes of me, as I haven't kept up with the FFXV release saga until now), just that a variety of chats would take full grasp of the opportunity that a long podcast brings :D But hey, this was brilliant – I'll keep supporting and watching no matter what you guys want to talk about. No.1 games media team on the internet, no question. Love & respect, Pete

Peter White

Ben, this is now my favorite show of Easy Allies. You guys killed it. I was engaged the entire time and accidentally stayed up way too late watching. This was so much fun. Love you guys.

You guys have something special together. The way you guys elevate the jolliness of the discussions by bouncing off each other's opinion in a happy positive fashion (instead of attacking each other for their respective opinion) is inspiring and makes for a fantastic podcast!

Favorite EZA show/episode so far! This was hilarious and so personal. Not a dull moment from start to finish. BTW Brad nailed it by comparing Nakamura to a King of Fighters character (I said the same thing).

Soo glad there's a second podcast! I was missing Ian's group update, but I feel this is a good replacement for me. But it might be too long. I mean a good hour and a half is enough.

Danni-H4

Love ho-toc-ay (hot-take), love the podcast. Keep it up. I like longer form content. Awesome podcast overall.

Good Voice Acting Nintendo Games::: Perfect Dark - (It's Rare? So does it really count?) Metroid Prime 3 StarFox 64

best podcast guys, it felt like talking to you and asking everyone about their opinions. I pledged after I saw it.Keep going !

Loved it, great work from everyone. With it being fortnightly, 2 hours is a perfect length for me. Can't wait for some more HOTTAKE

Skankman

Let it gel for a little while, and I can't say I'm for shortening this podcast. If there's ever a week where they just aren't feeling it or are pressed for time, that's fine, but so much got discussed and debated that this just came off as therapeutic both for the EZA crew and the listener. Do still agree with the part about lengthening Tabletop Escapades, but that's a concern for another comment section.

MBUN

Really enjoyed it, keep it up.

Bravely Default's system would be an evolution of turn based combat right?

MBUN

Love it! keep them nice and long

I got so riled up during the turn based combat conversation. How is an action based combat an evolution of a turn based combat ? I get the need for something fresh and experimenting. But... changing from turned-based to action combat was by no means step forward. It was a step to the side, a reimagining and not going forward. I myself would be much happier person if Final Fantasy would stick with their turn-based roots as they were the ones to give this type of combat a proper shape. That's why so many JRPGs are trying to replicate that. I'm not saying that I want 8 more Final Fantasy games with ATB combat but surely there is a room to grow within this style of encounters isn't there ?

Hottaké

What an awesome show. Small gripe. You need to flip the audio. The mic you were using input the sound from where you were sitting and it sounds like Ben is on the left and Kyle is on the right. It messed with me for a few seconds but I'm smart (or at least I have a few moments) and I decided to put my headphones on backwards. They are new iphone earbuds so they felt a little weird, but it'd probably just be easier if you flip the audio.

This was a nice pow-wow from you guys. The mood was casual and fun, and there were enough of different topics. However, I personally felt that the two hours were a little too much. If I could, I would shorten this by 30 minutes and add that to the Tabletop Escapades. There the one hour length feels too short.

Ville Ranto

I LOVE the laid back vibe of this show. This kind of longer form, less planned and produced style of show is something I've always wanted from you guys. Keep it up!

Michael Fredrick Malone

it was a long, but very enjoyable ride! cant wait for more of this! Cheers Ben!

Ben, you are a content-genius! This show and Tabletop Escapades are my new favorite shows! Thank you!

Awesome podcast! I was like "it`s 2 hours?!!! yes!!"

SmorgasLord

awesome work, I really really enjoyed this

Great job guys, this show was super fun to listen to

David Cordova Bulens

I really liked the discussion about the feelings video games should give you when you are playing and I totally agree that there is room for all kinds of types of games. I just don't like MYSELF when I'm angry which is probably why the Souls games aren't my cup of tea. I love the exploration, leveling and fighting mobs in them but the boss fights just make angry and I don't like feeling that way.

Olf Himself

No, he can't. :)

Olf Himself

Just wanted to say THANK YOU to Ben for that comment on feeling anger/anything other than joy when playing video games because for the longest time, I thought something was wrong with me. I would get angry at something and think, "Oh I should stop playing, because this probably shouldn't make me angry but it did". I haven't played a lot of video games in recent years, but will try to get back into them. Thank you again, Ben and I look forward to more Frame Trap!

Hey Ben, can you speak Japanese?

What a great episode, really excited for the next one. Changed my perspective on FFXV, i'm going to give it go :) Awesome pace to the entire podcast, with great opinions.

Mumble Mumbleton

Just finished watching, great stuff. Also great job hosting Ben, love how you set the mood for each discussion and question as it makes the answers more personal and engaging.

LOVEEEEEEEE this new podcast, great job Ben, I think you should keep the cast of You Kyle Huber and Brad for all episodes. Please do not try to shorten these under 2 hours, longer the better!

Rosamune

Fantastic first episode, counting the days until the next one drops already.

Really enjoyed this podcast. Great content and length, perfect for background listening at work. Keep up the good work gents!

That's a sick hottake signoff, Ben. Really enjoying this show overall, I'm impressed that the show was different enough from produced by other members of EZA staff, given the somewhat similar format. Bravo.

I think Frame Trap is actually more like Invisible Walls in a way, more of quite a casual discussion, whereas Easy Allies Podcast is more like a chatshow, with strict sections. Love both.

Nintendo and VO. It's a scary thought that everybody in Zelda is going to be fully-voiced. Can you imagine that you can customize Link/Linkle Bioware-style? That you can adjust his/her voice to "sulky", "experienced" or "cocky". That would be really funny. On a more serious and scrubby note. I've actually never played through any of the Final Fantasies. Started a few of them, but never finished them. I've watched all of the Final Fantasy VII streams and I loved it. I've pre-ordered XV and I'm really looking forward to it. To me it looks like the perfect blend of an epic, fantastical, serious story and goofiness. I'm in!

Backlog Crusader

Regarding best VO in Nintendo games: The better question is "what Nintendo games even have VO?". There are some, but there's not many. For example, Star Fox series, Metroid Other M, and Xenoblade. Of which, Star Fox has decent VO, Xeno has decent VO, and Other M is average.

Andrew Chalmers

I like this. I appreciate that it's significantly different to the Easy Allies Podcast.

I think having a female or male Link is fine, and I think having a different skin tone Link is also fine. But in terms of player choice, sometimes those things need to be limited. For example, if you're a Link descendant who lives among the Gerudo, you can't really have a choice in skin tone or gender (you have to be a female with a brown tone), since that's how the world is (men are destined to be King, of which might not fit with how Link is supposed to just be a hero, not a king). Same could be said for other scenarios. For example, if you're a Kokiri, then you can a choice in gender but not skin tone. But yeah, generally speaking, having different gender or ethnicity Link is fine, but you can't willy nilly allow the player to choose all of those things freely unless it's carefully written into the story/world.

Andrew Chalmers

Great podcast. Ben is a good host!

The length of the podcast is perfect. Sat down after a session of Dark Souls 3 and enjoyed it.

Ben, do you know Japanese?

I've always felt there is a void in the gaming world for having podcasts early in the week. It feels like most places post midweek or later (it doesn't help that I also live in a +13 timezone). So I think it's really awesome that this podcast posts early (and generally speaking, EZA having content up such as Cup of Jones up early).

Andrew Chalmers

Dig the new podcast! Jolly good vibes.

Love the Battleborn Beta, it's ok if People don't like the humor or setting of the game or even the game at all but it certainly does not deserve such a rant from Huber who we all know doesn't like Borderlands at all (apart from the Telltale game).

Daniel Fuchs

Ben you did a fantastic job, well done! Love the long podcast, feels great going in knowing you guys are hanging out for awhile, good stuff!

Steven

That was great! It was a nice one. Love the title. Keep at SFV guys!

Travis Ing

I totally get where Brad is coming from. If there is a game that epitomises the ole ball in a cup, it's Just Cause 3 and I just can't stop playing it. Blowing shit up never gets old.

Alex Moscow

I have a question for the panel! Do you really think Zelda is taking a risk with changing certain things to "evolve" the franchise? Because in my opinion it would have been a much higher risk to change nothing at all. To me it feels like they almost HAVE to change stuff to go with time especially with that female link coming up. Or for it to be open world. It kinda feels like they do what works for other franchises right now. I mean Star Wars, Ghost Busters and Oceans 11 got female heros now. There is open world games everywhere. Nintendo just goes with the flow. So TO ME it would have been risky and brave to stick to the old fashioned . Not that i dont like changes, im very open minded. But i appreciate games that know what they are and dont see a necessity to change. My 2 cents. Love & Respect.

Really loved the podcast Ben. I enjoyed the more relaxed/fast and loose style as a nice contrast to the more structured style of Kyle's podcast

I had fun playing Battlebournes coop with a couple friends

Kc Wright

My thoughts on the possibility of being able to pick between a male/female Link in Zelda U/NX: I think it would be a really lazy move and not creative at all. Link is mostly an established and iconic character as he is. If they're going to do a Female Protagonist for a Zelda game then she should be her very own character who gets fleshed out on her own, is her own person, and is not just gender-swapped Link. Either create an all new female protagonist with her own agency or give one of the existing female characters in the franchise real development and proper main character treatment. Just picking between male/female Link is a cheap, easy, lazy, and unimaginative way out and Nintendo is *better* than that.

Loved this show. The excitement I felt when I realized it was a two hour show...hypezilla. Keep up the great work guys 👍

really enjoyed the new podcast! huber is spot on with battleborn. i realize its supposed to be easy going and goofy, but its more like the one guy who still laughs at the teacher when he says penis then looks around bewildered as to why no one else thinks its funny. humor aside, the gameplay is abhorrent. its sad to me to see more and more games come out that are either not fully realized ideas or that are pushed to make sales.

Before I get into the meat of this comment first thing is first: great job! This was very entertaining and even kept me up later than I wanted to be. It was great to see four great personalities discuss gaming without needing a specific structure. The free form conversations felt natural and human in the best of ways. I am going to separate my comment into two sections; all of my information is regarding Final Fantasy (mostly XV) in some way. First is informative where for those interested in knowing more, and then I'll get to my opinion on how the game and everything surrounding it are being handled. First, I'll admit the demo does not do a great job demonstrating the depth of the combat, but there is a great video that goes into how even the demo can be quite technical if you know what is going on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKkShDZySbw Now for the more opinionated/personal bit of my comment. I really cannot be more excited for FFXV and I really have faith in what the company, and specifically Tabata as a director, are going to do with the game. The game needs to find some new way to advance the series. FFXII was one of my all time favorites (only behind VI and Tactics) for not only the gameplay changes, but the different focus in plot. Instead of this highly romantic "save the world" kind of ordeal the game focused on a tangible war of two warring nations that had normal human beings on either side of it. In the same way that FFXII and FF Tactics brought forth a more politically charged story with many influencing characters, I am looking forward to FFXV to really dive deep into the bonds of four individuals as they go on an expansive journey. I want the characters to feel alive, even if they do repeat some phrases every now and again. To oppose Huber on that subject: I feel that many close groups of friends have saying or phrases they repeat occasionally as an inside joke or kind of identifier within said group. I don't think it's THAT abnormal for someone to repeat a phrase occasionally, I just would like to hear a bit of variety within the repeated phrases. End long rant, and I want to reemphasize that the episode was fantastic. I am looking forward to next week's Frame Trap.

Awesome job guys. That podcast was so fun to listen to in a way that's a bit different from the other podcast. I really enjoyed how the conversations just kind of flew off the handle because of the more casual feeling of the show. It was great to see you guys come out with very opinionated responses to certain topics. It felt super engaging because it seemed like each of you were really into the topics and you all let emotions come out when you were discussing something that you had passionate answers for. I usually listen to podcasts while I'm driving, or working, or grinding on a game; but for this podcast I literally ended up just putting down my game and just watched you guys talk it out for 2 hours. Hopefully you guys can make this a weekly podcast because I can't wait for episode 2.

Starfox 64, iconic voice acting

Re: Linkle. I don't really care about the woman as a playable protagonist thing (I barely even perscribe an identity to Link anyway). What does piss me off is seemingly being able to play a mainline Zelda game for the first time as a female... and that female isn't *Zelda*. I mean, really?! Shiek is probably the best thing that's come out of a Zelda game. This used to depress me as a kid as I desperately hoped for a Shiek/Tenchu game that would never come. Whatever. I checked out of Nintendo over a decade ago, so any annoyance over the issue is pretty much academic.

great episode, guys! about the zelda talk- is anyone else getting the vibe that this is the beginning of the end for the franchise's identity? the idea of a fully customizable character, voice acted NPC's, decisions and speech trees, makes it all sound like this new zelda game is getting way, way too homogenized with every other fantasy adventure game out there. I dont want to watch the series become a more cartoony elder scrolls, where cringey voice actors with bad fake accents talk to me about monsters and ask how i feel. I want it to be Zelda. after seeing how poorly they handled the streamlining in skyward sword (no open world, revisiting the same areas multiple times instead of making new ones, etc), and how terribly the voice acting in Other M hurt the entire vibe of metroid, this is honestly kind of making me think the franchise is in some trouble.

Perfection, Ben!!! i love this!!!

Chris

You are absolutely correct. I love the VO in Kid Icarus: Uprising.

I tried playing borderlands 2 again recently and I hated the writing when I used to at least find it amusing...

Kid Icarus Uprising had full voice acting. It was mostly good, with a stellar cast. I think if Zelda is voice acted, it has a chance on sounding good. Hopefully, the Treehouse translates it well (it feels like their quality has dipped over the last two years).

This is awesome so far so laid back exactly what i'm looking for

Thanks Ben! Can't wait to check it out!

Looooooooooooooooooove that it's 2 hours. Please don't shorten it. All your videos are too short so this is just excellent. Loving the second podcast.

just found out that there is another podcast called frame trap as well in the side bar. Hopefully you guys don't get into trouble for using the name. Great name.

Looking forward to seeing this, Ben. Cheers

Yes! This is exactly what I've been craving from you guys, so excited to listen!
