Brandon Plays Pokémon - Part 7

Hi Allies!

Now that Poké-Fever has risen again, seems like a nice time to spend a solid hour+ following Brandon Jones' first-ever journey through the original Pokémon games. Jones is at a late point in the game where I usually am breezing through, just ready to finish the quest already, so it's fascinating to hear the observations he makes on this island he never expected to exist. Thanks again for putting up with this absurdly in-depth program; it really is a blast to put together.

Love & Respect,

Kyle

Brandon Plays Pokémon - Part 7

Comments

I haven't played Pokemon Blue in about 15 years. This show takes me back and I love it. Thanks guys!

This show is deserving of it's own shirt. Preferably featuring the artwork of a very chill Brandon cruising on his Gyrados.

I want to redeem Weezing. Jones, creatures can sometimes just fuse together like that/become part of another creature to form something new. First two examples that come to mind are when a male anglerfish bites onto an fuses with the female until it's basically a vestigial sperm sack, and how mitochondria and chloroplasts were likely originally symbiotic organisms that teamed up with primitive cells to increase energy production. I guess even in that example the fused male and female anglerfish is still just two anglerfish scientifically, but we don't really consider mitochondria to be their own creatures at this point, just like the sad tiny ball on Weezing isn't a Koffing anymore. But of course, I wouldn't bother to comment in the first place if I didn't love this show so much. I'm glad you're enjoying it too!

Kyle you heartless beast, capture and trade a Machoke named Jean Claude for Jones. Would be awesome for the show.

So this series has inspired me to play a Pokémon game. I've never played anything besides Pokémon Shuffle. I'm playing through Pokémon Heart Gold version. My starting lineup is a Totodile named Mick (Dundee), a Bellsprout named Bushroot, a Togepi named Yoshi, a Geodude named Krang, a Spinarak name Flick, and a Mareep named Cloudman. Enjoying it quite a bit. I appreciate the suggestion to Jones to name each one. Helps you get into it more.

I am okay with you going straight to sun and moon but please keep this show going! Even if it's a monthly 2 hr show or something. I don't want you to be stressed out doing it but with Pokemon go now hype is at its peak and I could watch these forever lol

I know Jones said that he is really excited to play Sun or Moon, and I wonder if either Kyle or Jones will ever read this, but man, I really want to see Jones' reaction to playing Gold or Silver... its a sequel in every way, so its interesting to see how he reacts to the changes (moreso than Sun or Moon, which I believe would be a humongous leap) and c'mon, the reaction I had after beating Gold and Silver's elite four and the world opens up.... mind. blown. I'd looove to see Jones reaction to that!

There is proof that gym leaders are stronger than the Pokemon they throw out in their gym battle though, Kyle... In later games, you can fight gym leaders again, and they have their presumably real, 6 Pokemon team which is usually in the fifties and sixties. In B/W2, your rival from a previous game is the first gym. he very clearly has stronger Pokemon. He only uses the weaker Pokemon as a sort of test for you, I presume.

Does Jones know he'll be able to bring his Pokemon from Red into Sun/Moon? I can't remember if it's been talked about

Oh and also to mention the idea of catching pokemon is considered more difficult for the average person/trainer

Sean Barrett

I have a theory for why people do not carry around a full armada of 6 pokemon. I think it can be compared to how people own pets in our lives. They take a lot of time and responsibility to take care, money and the same goes into Pokémon. You are looking to be the best pokemon trainer and so you commit all of your time to pokemon. Perhaps the "casuals" in this world who only carry around 1-3 pokemon only have the time to take care of that many because they work 40 plus hours at Pokeburger. Or if they do have more than enough pokemon to full party of 6 they chose to leave the majority at home because they cannot justify the potential costs of injuries and healing it may cost.(even though the pokemart does free healing and revival). The moral of this story is....Nobody in this world is as hardcore as Trainer Jones.

Sean Barrett

Love the show as ALWAYs.My routine for watching each episode is powering up that 3ds and playing as I hear you two angels speak.

Sean Barrett

Yes Jones!! I love this series so much! They are coming towards the end now. Jones has almost completed the game. Can't wait to see how he deals with the "final challenge" in the game. You pokemon fans now what I mean :)

Casper Andersen

Is that fanmade pokemon poster for sale?!

confusedhulk

So will Jones stop after beating the "end boss" or will he go after all 150 (151?) Pkmn ?

Randy Verschueren

It was originally used during the "allies assemble!" video when EZA was announced. Definitely a great tune.

Bradley Spies

If it wasn't for this show, i probably wouldn't have gotten Pokemon GO, so THANKS GUYS!

The Hashtagonist

Love this series so much. Thanks Bosman and Jones.

Andrew Chalmers

Love the themesong of this show! Is it a cover version or something original? Fits perfectly.

I think its fair to tell Jones to go to the power plant (if he havnt found it next episode). I think he will like it. Great job as always guys, I am really looking forward to this show and I am very curious how things will go for jones at the end of the game because I think the fact that he leans on Johnny and Sparky to much will bite him in the butt :)

FreeDoM

I think Jones already stated in a Cup of Jones episode that he has all the Dimension stuff

HUUUUGEEEE stack of Lego Dimensions stuff in the background! I think I've figured out how Jones is going to get over Disney Infinity......

little correction: I'm pretty sure I took quiz for each door in the Cinnabar gym in my own Pokémon Red playthrough. I also fought all the trainers though, the quizes were only optional (I nailed them btw). But yeah, I believe it's not Pokémon Yellow exclusive.; Anyway, great episode as always ♥ I finished Red last week (or more like 'finished' since I'm still trying to catch some extra Pokémon) and already started HeartGold, which is fun, but somehow lacks the charm of the first game for me. But I'm only in the first town, so this might be just me being impatient... I certainly have high expectations now, Red was excellent. Also Brandon, good job with Articuno! I (foolishly?) used my Master Ball for it, but no regrets, Articuno was in my party till the end. And one tip - if you're looking for someone new to add to your party I recommend Drowzee (eventually Hypno), he's one of my favorites, his move set is sick (mine includes Psychic, Hypnosis, Dreameater (!!!) and Confusion) and he looks really cool!

Monika

Pretty good job explaining "Ma" the character also looks a bit like a horse, too. --> 馬

Ian Alexander

are any of these in pokemon red though?

There are pokemon moves that heal pokemon. In the show at the center there is usually a Chansey with Joy. So there are pokemon that heal other pokemon. I also believe there are pokemon that can't exist without other different type pokemon in the world. Healing Wish 100% party HP and status recovery, user's HP drops to 1, room-range Clefairy, Chansey, Blissey, Celebi, Gardevoir, Chimecho, Latias, Jirachi, Buneary, Lopunny, Mesprit, Shaymin Lunar Dance 100% party HP/PP and status recovery, user's HP drops to 1, room-range Cresselia Softboiled 25% party HP recovery, room-range Chansey, Blissey Milk Drink 25% party HP recovery, floor-range Miltank Moonlight +50 party HP recovery in Clear weather, +80 HP in Sunny weather, 1-30 HP in other weather, floor-range Clefairy, Oddish, Gloom, Umbreon, Dustox, Volbeat, Illumise, Cresselia Morning Sun +50 party HP recovery in Clear weather, +80 HP in Sunny weather, 1-30 HP in other weather, floor-range Espeon, Beautifly

16:23 The sheer disgust.. Also, I want that dig. Gimme that pill.

Gan Khef

Another great episode! Though I am worried about one thing. I know you want Brandon to discover everything, but if Eevee's level gets too high, his next stage will miss out on learning its special moves!

Parasitepaladin

Part 8 is going to be so gooooood.

Bells aka Caprica

Amazing as always. Brandon, was sooo so glad you caught the journal stuff in the mansion. Regarding the issue of trainers not having 6 pokemon, especially in gyms, I guess my head-canon for that is that they don't get to travel the world power-levelling the way we do (and obviously for non-gym trainers, many of them are just people doing other stuff that have pokemon, like the fishermen). So they specialize with only a few of the pokemon that they have some bond with. They don't travel the world fighting every trainer they can, and they don't bother grinding against wild pokemon. So what we end up seeing are the handful of pokemon that they are strong with. Just like some towns being low level and some being high level it's obviously a mechanical consideration rather than a story one, but I guess that's how I reconcile it. They're not "pokemon" masters the way you are.

Bradley Spies

Brandon used Sniglet. It's super effective.

I just want to say that, playing any Pokemon game now is extremely nostalgic. It brings back all kinds of emotions from when I first started playing a long time ago. Pokemon will live forever. Thank you Kyle and Brandon for making the Pokemon experience new again.

This is my favorite show EZA does. Great job guys.

Brandon K Gann

Hi Allies. Before I ask my question, I just wanted to say, Loooove this series. Is it possible to license Mr. Gee's work and sell them as prints in the EZA store? I would pick up the Jones fishing and the Gyarados/Jones crossing of the Deleware in a New York minute. Hell, I'd catch em all.
