Mirror's Edge Catalyst - Easy Allies Review

That track made the game so much more memorable!

Really let down with this game. If you are a hardcore fan of the first one, and care mainly about the gameplay and doing trial runs/getting high scores...I think this game will please those fans. The open world aspect actually makes those things a bit more interesting. The story is a mess. It feels rushed and undercooked. It actually feels like a storyboard, rather then an actual full story/production. Faith is also poorly done overall (mostly because the story lets the character down. Doesn't give her moments to react to things). The Open world map also becomes tedious after 3 hours, because the game will have you do a lot of backtracking, and going over the same areas. There is fast travel, and that helps. But there are missions where you can't skip it. And you are basically running over the same areas again and again. Game is IMO great for the first 40%. Then quickly goes down hill, once the story falls apart and is rushed. And once the open world map wears its welcome out. The gameplay is supberb though. The music is truly wonderful (I want the soundtrack so much). The art style is also incredible. The game just feels rushed and not finished. On a technical level, I think the game looks worse then the previous. Either they are using worse AA, or they aren't using enough. But image looks blurry/muddy. I'm on PC too (4K 60fps even)...and I had to use Sweet FX to clean the image up (get rid of the blurry/muddyness and lift the brown filter they put over the game). So it's even kind of a let down on a technical level. All in all, I think the gameplay really saves this from being a complete disaster. Depending on what you want out of it, this might be worth the money. But as a full package, it's not what it should have been. Just my 2 cents.

First game was boring and repetitive and after a few hours of playing made me motion sick, I'm sure the graphics are better now, but I can barely tell the difference. Seems like a really pointless effort to make this game. I do have a friend though who thinks the first game is one of the best games ever, so... I guess someone will like this.

Story and characters are an annoyance for sure, but I can't agree about the combat mechanics. I think those are the one thing that were a beautiful enhancement to the original in the new game.

I knew that would be the score. As a big fan it saddens me but I can't disagree. I may have added half a star but its flaws are too big for a higher rate. I wish they would've put more effort into the story and level design to give it more weight and depth. Still love the movement, sound, graphics and music. The horrendous cutscene stutter bug they fixed for pc this week and the insane price really put it down though.
