She knew she would never be the end game for him and insecurities set in- hence the waffling at the beginning of the reveal. Now, eventually he would have worn thin with the beta make tendencies but 100% of the time, she would have chosen this guy. I think there was something there, they just needed to go out and get to know each other better. Sometimes you need to know someone a little more. Maria could have been good for him also, but Brandon was kind of stuck on Talia and just didn't notice what was really going on. I've had that happen to me and I really missed out on a great woman.
