Itโs a long story. But for a very long time I identified as alloromantic (someone who experiences romantic attraction regularly, like most people).
But in recent years, something just.. changed. I no longer desire romantic relationships in the sense that it doesnโt interest me anymore, directly. I donโt really want a romantic relationship, Iโd rather have a connection with someone that falls somewhere between romantic and platonic (itโs called โqueer platonicโ relationship).
There are other forms of attraction such as aesthetic (liking how someone looks, their personality etc), sensual (desiring physical intimacy like hugs/cuddles with someone), and emotional attraction (desiring an emotional connection with someone).
I come to realize that all my life I have been conflating those other types of attraction with romantic attention. What is romantic attraction? Have I even felt it before? Probably. When I was younger. But as I got older, somethingโฆ. Just.. Changed. I canโt describe it. ๐
Thatโs why the label โAegoromanticโ fits me now. I absolutely LOVE cute and wholesome fictional relationships, or fictional romance in general. But the thought of partaking in any romantic activities makes me uncomfortable now. Iโd much rather watch fictional character be lovey-dovey. This disconnect between oneself and the romantic target(s) or fantasy is the very definition of Aegoromanticism, which fits my experiences best. For now (?) ๐ Itโs also a micro label of Aromanticism :) ๐ค๐ค๐
