A rainy weekend in Brooklyn: newsletter week of 10/6
Added 2025-10-13 00:18:20 +0000 UTCHello from my desk in Brooklyn, NY. It has been one of those perfectly gray, sleepy weekends that don't make you feel like you missed out on too much by spending it working on a video.
The video in question. For the last week, I have been deep in the edit on a video about every cent I made in my first year as an independent creator. It's a weird one for me-- there isn't a lot to show, so I've been challenged by how to make it engaging without opening After Effects, which I continue to refuse to learn.

I have resorted to handwritten graphics ^

many taking head angles ^

and, of course, sound effects ^
With any luck, this video will go up tomorrow. Spoiler alert: I made more than I was making at The Verge and my new logo is below :)

Wish me luck in this last bit of the edit, though, my god, this one has been tough!
πΊ Things I watched:
I was feeling absolutely devastated after hearing about the passing of Diane Keaton, so Hannah and I tuned into The First Wives Club, which was free on YouTube. What a wild movie!
The Death of "Art" on YouTube
I could not agree more with this chat, though I found it ironic that it was given to a room prodometly filled with folks who love the business side of this hustle (from what I have heard from folks who were there). To each their own, though!
What happened to hoverboards? | Version History
The blue hoverboard, seen many times in this video, was my BABE while I was at The Verge. I rode it all around the office and even stood on it while stationary at my desk. I miss her <3
Skateboarder. Architect. Olympian | Epicly Laterβd: Alexis Sablone
Inspirational amounts of grit.
Project : MONT BLANC | Cinematic Short Film - Sony A7CII

πΆ Things I listened to:
In honor of a rainy weekend, I made a rainy weekend playlist. Short, sweet, and vibey as all hell. Hope ya like it!
Ok, back to the edit I go. Hope you had a great weekend, bud!
Appreciate the hell outta ya,
Becca

2025-10-13 05:15:08 +0000 UTCCongrats on your first year! I was in my late 30s before I made $150k gross. Yeah there are expenses and healthcare and taxes. Still, Iβm glad to see the world rewarding your cool, upbeat and authentic attitude towards tech and life.
