Insta360's worst lineup just became… my favorite? (ad-free)

The whole shtick of Insta360's GO lineup has always been that it’s a super-tiny camera that can be taken in and out of a larger camera body, which houses more battery, a tiltable screen, additional buttons, and a USB-C port. So, you could use the Go as a more traditional-looking action camera, or at any time you could pop it out and have that same action camera, but without any extra bulk.

The problem was that these tiny cameras were always plagued by small sensors that produced subpar photos and videos. So, with the GO Ultra, the company changed that. Dramatically.

No, really, I'm shocked at how much of an improvement the GO Ultra is over previous cameras in this lineup. It has made me, a former hater, a lover of this form factor. There are, of course, downsides, like the non-removable battery, but this finally feels like a viable action camera for the masses.

But what do you think?

1) great video and as always, a very balanced look at a product. Appreciate you not taking ad money for these as I’m certain you were offered haha 2) I bought a Go 3S during a B&H Black Friday thing so it was a bit of an impulse purchase and admittedly, I mainly got it to use for cat POV content (shout out Mr. Kitters on Instagram haha). BUT — I’ve been continually impressed by the quality of properly lit / exposed video and even more so, the audio. I’ve used it for a few vlogging style short docs and it does a great job. So while I can imagine going from the standard Go 3 to the Ultra is a huge leap, I feel like you might be going too hard on the 3S. Is it perfect? No but I do think it can make the leap from strictly mobile viewing to larger screen viewing. I agree though, I’ve never seen anything from the Go 3 or older cameras that impressed me. 3) agreed on the price. Not getting political but perhaps the Ultra’s pricing is a result of tariffs taking effect on an Insta product. Even the Go 3S is kind of absurd at its standard MSRP. 4) omg how many numbers is this guy gonna do?? 5) I also think the removable SD card option for the Ultra is a key upgrade. Getting files off my Go 3S, especially if I’m gonna edit with them in Final Cut and use Gyroflow to stabilize, is cumbersome at best. Yah I can process them in the Insta360 Studio but it applies noise reduction no matter what I do and I like to control the image more. 6) finally - I’ll stop after this I swear haha - the size difference is a bit of a deal breaker for me. Like I said, the primary reason I bought this was for cat POV content and the pill shape of the 3S is simply perfect for this, almost as if they designed it to be attached to a little cat collar haha Again, love you and your content and especially loved the long range cycling with the solar panel thing you produced a while back. Just leave my 3S alone! 😭😭😭

So excited for this video; I've used a GoPro, then an Insta360 GO 2, then a DJI Action 5, all for filming on my bike. None of those were quite right. I'm wondering if the Go Ultra is it.
