Safety Inspections and Approvals Begin Under CFTOD
Added 2024-03-11 12:32:21 +0000 UTCIt's time to start investigating what is happening with the resort set aside for military members and their families at Walt Disney World Resort. As you may recall, we were unhappy on the WDW Pro Channel that the pedestrian walkway was eliminated so that military members could no longer walk to the Polynesian and take a monorail or bus to their preferred locations. This was a 29 year perk taken away. We were further disappointed when information came out that Disney had been offered different choices regarding the pathway and the "preferred outcome" according to the incoming CFTOD administration was the elimination of the walkway. CFTOD has seemed open to overturning the RCID / Disney / DoD collaboration on that and we hope they do. We hope they call it the "Freedom Bridge" when (and if) they replace it.
One of the interesting parts of our initial investigation into the current situation at Shades of Green (the military hotel) is that elevators are now being inspected by CFTOD in according with Florida laws. That's a major change and one we were not expecting yet. It also indicates that -- contrary to what pro-Disney blogs might say -- CFTOD is operating as a normal local governing body and beginning to do all the things one would have normally expected.
Even more interesting is that the elevator permit notes a new safety department operating for CFTOD. That's a huge plus for guest safety because it means that Disney World is finally under normal oversight like all other areas of Florida. This might help with what had been routine maintenance issues that had given the resort a black eye. How many times have we seen the monorail evacuated using bucket trucks? How many times have we seen a dragon lost to fire after poor procedures with flammable liquids?
And, of course, this is just the beginning of our look into what is happening at Disney World with the takeover of CFTOD. You can expect extensive coverage on ThatParkPlace.com -- but it's coming to Patreon first each day for the next many.

Disney I don't think understands the difference between State and Fed governments. They think they were sticking it to DeSantis doing what they did not knowing that our military is vastly NOT "state" (unless Guard or Reserves.) And even then Guard and Reserves still can and some do serve on both the State and Federal fronts. The resort is owned and operated by the Federal govt (Army MWR), NOT the State. And I am not defending Disney here, just pointing out their childish behavior and ignorance. I hope CFTOD does something soon because we are already in a busy season. That aside, most rent cars, or use the resort shuttle OR just walk around the baracade and still cross the street.
