Hmmm. I was a cast member in 2000-2001. I don't remember Disney hiring men to play queens or princesses. Is this new? I don't think Walt would want to have that for his image!! I am just saying!

The Evil Queen costume has been designed for 5'7" to 5'10" cast members for as long as the current iteration has existed. We have confirmed this with someone who works in the costume department.

Not really a question but I was a cast member back in 2007 at the college program. I have a picture with the evil queen that I can provide, that stature requirement is BS, I'm like 5'9 (yes I'm short) and she was pretty much my height

Background checks are still mandatory. The problem I see is that I would recommend checks every 2-3 years. Bad behavior once employed is an potential issue.

WDW Pro

I think current Disney leadership is 1000% in favor of this and willing to lose market share over it.

WDW Pro

Any idea if Disney does background checks on the people they are hiring lately? It seems like they are more protective of their agenda now than they are of the kids.

Laurag

Do you believe Disney was caught off guard to the negative reaction to this? They are in such a bubble they don’t even understand why families might take issue with the situation. I think that’s why they are coming after you hard now.

Reier Gotter

They're allowed to specify that. It might be harder now that they've opened the door to all sorts of issues with the inclusion key policies.

WDW Pro

Very basic question -- can Disney specify man or woman when casting parts and characters or is that discrimination?

Karen Owen

You're probably right. Sad times.

Daniel Welcher

That was last June. That one was far more prominent and I think was an effort to be as visible as possible.

WDW Pro

This seems like a continuation of the person with the beard and yellow dress outside of the Disney store. I think that was several months back?

Daniel Welcher

This was Artist Pointe character dining at Wilderness Lodge. We are aware of other situations around the parks that might make families uncomfortable, but we're not ready to discuss those yet.

My family has reservations at the Fort Wilderness resort this summer. I read the experience of this family, and we closely align with the values indicated in the article. I do NOT want to put my family in this position. However, my wife if a big fan of the villains theme and meet and greet. Can you provide more information on exactly what special event / experience this is? I would like to avoid if possible. We love the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, but I have never seen this dinner and character meet/greet. Also, I have alluded in the coverage that the cast member is part of a rotation. Do you know how many cast members are in the rotation and the possibility of encountering this cast member?
