Disney Faces Major Challenges with ESPN

From one of our contributors and insiders into the music / sports industries:

Good stuff on the congressional intervention. In just a couple of weeks I’m going to be outlining one other major caveat in all of this.

The RSN “Bally’s” was just dumped by their parent company. They have no backing.

Amazon tried to intervene in order to obtain streaming rights. Disney owned all of those 19 (now 17) markets the same as they own Fox entertainment. They sold to Bally’s for 8 billion which is the bankruptcy number as well. So in the offseason, all of those teams (MLB, NHL, NBA) need new homes.

MLB is slowly pulling away and making an incumbent network. The NBA is going to be heavily courted (we’ve talked about that a bit) and whoever loses the ESPN bid could easily go and buy up those 17 markets. The streaming chart Jonas did was huge. ESPN+ didn’t even register.

The bridge collapse in MD is not hitting full impact yet but an expectation of shortages and another massive inflation are looking possible if not probably.

Summed up? ESPN will lose their cable revenue where 2/3s of customers don’t watch the channel. They can’t count on the remaining 1/3 coming over. There are already 2 hockey markets on the verge of collapse and I can explain that more if you want. I have been following this side for over a year and the results are worse than I thought they’d be. With Disney friendly publications like Forbes broadcasting the losses (after the vote) Disney’s friends are doing what you said they are doing. But they made one person angry that is going to cause them trouble.

Steve Jobs’ widow.

Apple TV wants sports and the temp is turned up due to lackluster ratings and advertisers backing out. Only a couple companies can afford those losses.

ESPN is dieing a slow death, MLB, NFL have there own networks, teams have there own sites yankees, mets as that is where Iam from. One would assume that other teams may have there own sites as well. This why I think they are trying to create this monopoly on sports they should just sell off ESPN as well as Disney+ as they are lose leaders. The parks are carrying the company if we have some sort of event that cause a financail set back the cash flow will dry up. Just my thoughts

Bebop

It was a great episode. Loved it. As for the Woke Que... It was so minor that I didn't even pay attention. Remember... Hollywood's baseline, and the Dramatic Arts in general, is Liberal or Woke. The degree to which that predilection overrides the story telling of a particular piece of entertainment is the real issue. If it overrides a thing and thereby derails it, it's Woke. If it's there and it doesn't affect anything and it's relatively benign, then it's not Woke. Yes, there are degrees and agendas and all that garbage. There always have been and there always will be. I'm 53. I've consumed a lot of media. It's always been there. This filed of human endeavor is a natural draw for those folks. There's always a higher concentration of them in the fields of music, art, literature, and film.

Huh. I’d never heard of Bally’s until I found most Texas Rangers games were on it.
