Regarding the Original Spider-Man Trilogy... Genius Thoughts from LW Ghost

Looking at engagement on Patreon, I know that one of the things you all love the most is hearing from our resident genius, LW Ghost. Today, he's shared a gem regarding Spider-Man -- specifically the original trilogy from the 90s. I think you'll enjoy his take on how it compares with the rest of modern Hollywood!

_____

So anyhow....I got an email from Peacock with the things I should watch, the things I could watch, and things "Leaving soon!" and among the latter are the "Spiderman Trilogy"--the first three movies, and it's been forever it seems since I watched them so...I began.

HOW in the world have we LOST this storytelling ability! Poignancy, Action, Romance, Comedy, Special Effects, Heroes, Villains, and triumph over adversity. It's been the "formula" for thousands of years since those Spaceship Earth cave painters and the Greek dramatists and Will Shakespeare and Rogers and Hammerstein and Tennessee Williams and of course John Ford, Akira Kurosawa, Sergio Leone, Alfred Hitchcock, Francis Coppola, and, yes. Steven Spielberg, Sidney Lumet, George Lucas, and all the rest and WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED to throw all this away?

Frankly, I cannot remember a recent performance by anyone in any "superhero" action movie to match Tobey OR especially Villem Dafoe in this thing, can you? What do you want to bet that (a) they had a script they could study and rehearse, (b) a director in Sam Raimi who knew where he was every second of shooting it, (c) and producers who knew how to make it happen on time, on budget, and (d) a studio who was smart enough to get OUT of the way and let the story tell itself to please and thrill and enchant and SATISFY the audience.  The year of release? 2002 in case you forgot--I had to look it up to remember. 22 years to get here from there? Heck, I have SHOES older than that. (smile)

And that leaves us with two possible ways to think and feel about all this--to think "It is lost and it can never come again" which is a HUGE mistake DESPITE how hard the morons and wokies are trying to make it so---OR to KNOW that it is only a dream away and that with one little spark (or more, maybe) of inspiration, we can get back the knack, rekindle the cultural campfire, and give our grandkids what we were blessed with.

I like to think THAT is why we are all here doing what we do every day. I think I know it is. And remember--as we grow in audience, reach, and respect with our audience, well....With great power comes great responsibility.
