Peltz Takes the Lead

From our response to Black Girl Gamers and how that will arrive (very publicly) to the Disney Board Vote, things are spicy on every front. And then there's the video I'm releasing this morning about a Disney Parks Garage Sale that you just can't believe. But perhaps the biggest news of all is about to hit today -- unless of course you consider us bopping the Gamergate 2.0 mess over the head with a heavy dosage of mature freedom of speech medicine to be bigger.
The big news for today that I'm talking about is a leak of gargantuan proportions. If you watched the show yesterday, you know that I said I thought Nelson Peltz would lose the proxy vote this year but that Disney was acting like that is not the case. Well now we know why!
A leak out of the Wall Street Journal says that Nelson Peltz is actually ahead in the vote count to gain a seat on the board. This is HUGE! Should Peltz gain said seat, it will do so much more than just put a very small minority view on an otherwise monolithic echo chamber. It will be a total repudiation of Bob Iger from the establishment -- the institutions. This would be the Roy v Eisner moment. This would be the end of the untarnished weatherman narrative the press loves to trot before us.
And with it coming out in the same two weeks as the announcement that Disney World has utterly lost to Florida (something that Iger pushed for with bravado) in what will be a trillion dollar mistake... it would all but seem that Iger's succession plan is over. Peltz will have the opportunity to weigh in on who will take over Disney. The trickle-down effects of that will impact everything.
It is also not the end of the proxy fight. Peltz is very likely to push more candidates in the next election. And why shouldn't he?
There is no guarantee that Peltz hangs onto the lead. But with literally days left, the fact that he has the lead is incredible. It's the 20-30% coming true that I talked about for a year. And it could just be the biggest indication of a cultural shift on the horizon we've seen yet.

[sigh] I fear Iger is going to finagle his way to keeping his personally-picked board intact after all. Rather sorry the ISS and CALPERS recommendations got me all excited. My apologies to those who own Disney stock, but it’d be satisfying were it to drop like a rock immediately afterward. Spin *that*, Bob.

2024-04-03 04:40:36 +0000 UTCLet me ask you this, Pro…do you think Iger essentially shot himself in the foot with all his frantic, frenzied attempts to forestall Peltz? Hurried, rushed announcements intended to show Big Things Are Happening. The strange Scrooge McDuck bits sent to shareholders and now ads on YouTube. Poking and prodding Abigail Disney, George Lucas, and who knows who else to publicly praise him and condemn Peltz. He “doth protest too much, methinks,” as Queen Gertrude observed in “Hamlet.” Were I a Disney shareholder — and certainly were I an institutional shareholder! — this near-hysteria to prevent an outsider from gaining a seat on the board would raise my suspicions. Obviously Iger is hiding something. Or so it strikes me. Do you think it is striking ISS and others the same way, and had Iger pretty much ignored Peltz the latter wouldn’t be making near as much headway?

2024-03-29 13:42:48 +0000 UTCThis is… a coordinated offensive. I know this channel isn’t political. But AF Legal, Peltz, and many of these money institutions all talk to the same people. First rule of politics- Offense is better than defense. And Disney’s decisions have made them an easy entity to sideline (with Justification) in 2024. As a certain Orange Man is probably thinking - fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice… shame on me. I don’t think he will be fooled twice. And Disney’s repeated reprehensible behavior makes them an easy ship to torpedo. Largely with their own actions
