George Lucas Joins the White Slavers

There are many out there today questioning or gloating when it comes to George Lucas and his backing of Bob Iger in the Disney proxy war. But there are a number of things which need to be taken into consideration... and in doing so, the truth might be better revealed as less sanguine for those who want a victory.

First, one might question why George Lucas in his encore years would wish to weigh in on such a battle -- this is something he's never done in the past. One might also wonder why exactly he would wish to use the same sort of language and talking points that Disney itself has used in an effort to discredit Jay Rasulo and Nelson Peltz. I would suggest that if it reads like a product of Disney, perhaps we shouldn't be hasty to discredit that it might just be a product of Disney.

So then the question becomes, why does George Lucas want to throw his name onto a potential Disney product that would save Bob Iger and his legacy? It's not as if George Lucas' legacy has been saved by Bob Iger. And it's not as if George Lucas has spoken kindly of Disney in the past. He's called them "white slavers" -- a comment that he had to rescind after legal threats were sent his way by the House of Mouse. That's not the language one expects from future bedfellows.

So let me offer this to my dear Patreon subscribers...

What if this is actually a "legacy swap"?

In other words, whereas Lucas' legacy has been tarnished and Iger's is on the verge... what if the two men said, "listen, we don't like each other but let's pull ourselves both out of this hole." The deal then is easy -- Bob does whatever George wants to get Star Wars and Lucasfilm fixed... George helps Bob beat back Trian. And maybe to George that's worth temporarily joining with the white slavers who have not only destroyed his beloved Star Wars but also Indiana Jones. Well... and Willow... and LucasArts... and... you know what, let's just stop. You get the idea!

But beware anyone who tells you resolutely that they know what was offered to George to put his name on such a product. The chances of a leak on this are infinitesimally small. After all, this was likely arranged in a private discussion between only Bob and George. So as much as I might enjoy breaking news with sources and getting scoops... I don't think anyone is scooping this one. If KK leaves in October though (or sooner), let the speculation begin as to what George Lucas did.
