Sylvie's Technique Vlog - Evolving in the Long Guard (10 min)

Here is my technique vlog on my continual development in the Muay Thai Long Guard, a really important defensive position that you don't really hold, but use in conjunction with other guards and strikes. You want to build balance and contextual feeling with this guard, and that's what I'm focusing on right now.

You can watch related Muay Thai Library videos, some of them mentioned in the vlog, some related to the Long Guard itself:

Kru Daeng teaches a version of the Long Guard called the Dracula Guard:

#31 Kru Daeng Kiatbusaba - Southpaw Dracula Guard  (64 min) watch it here

This is a master class in how to install a specific system of attack and defense, from the ground up. In this case it's the Dracula Guard from Southpaw, a style of muay designed for advancing, forward fighters. Discover not only all the built-in advantages, but also watch an incredible instructor mould proper positioning through constant, but carefully modulated pressure.

Manop teaches that the heel comes down first:

#55 Manop Manop Gym - The Art of the Teep (90 min) watch it here

An absolutely brilliant technician, Arjan Manop who is famed as Saenchai's Yokkao padman, teaches the art of the teep in fantastic detail. Some of his corrections were so small, like the timing of the plant foot, but have made big impacts on my practice. If you love the fine details of beautiful Muay Thai technique this is a session for you.

General Tunwakom teaches the clashing of weapons in Muay Lertrit:

#36 General Tunwakom - Lertrit Military Muay (46 min) watch it here

General Tunwakom is the last living direct student of the grandmaster who developed this Lertrit/Muay Khorat military style of fighting, designed to end exchanges quickly. Much can be learned from the foundations of these techniques, and these are definitely techniques that could be effective in the ring with proper timing.

Yodkhunon teaches the elbow attack:

#9 Yodkhunpon "The Elbow Hunter" pt 1  - Slicing Elbow (37 min) watch it here

Simultaneous Raja and Luminee title holder at 118 lbs, Yodkhunpon was one of the most feared elbow fighters in Thailand, and in this session he teaches the looseness and spacing that made his lead elbow such a viscious weapon. He also shuns the traditional rocking chair knee, and instead teaches a powerful stand-in crossing, open-hipped knee that compliments his elbows up top.

Arjan Surat likes the arm extended on kicks:

#61 Arjan Surat at Dejrat Gym - Old School Master (37 min) watch it here

Arjan Surat stands as a tower in the pantheon of great coaches of Thailand. Coach of the Thai National Team, Kru of legends since the Golden Age, there is nobody like him. Learn the basics of his technique, but what is more look into the eyes of the one of the great coaches ever, training legends in his garage for decades.
