I've finally finished this video. It was great as always and I'm sure it had to be a lot of work! It also got me thinking, specifically when you were talking about Unsane. In your video, you talked about the film as a horror movie, which might seem obvious, but it still stuck in my head. In my opinion, and based on your videos I guess you'd agree, horror is a genre that helps us deal with our own fears and trauma through the safe space of fictional and hyperreal stories and environments. That's why most of horror movies are in one way or the other supernatural and even those that aren't (Saw, Scream) still exist in this unreal exaggerated reality that we can kind of detach from. Now I haven't seen Unsane, but you yourself described it as not only a very realistic movie, but also a movie about something that regularly happens in real life. And I guess my question is that whether or not a movie still falls in the horror genre even when it doesn't have the supernatural or exaggerated veil of comfort. It actually kinda reminded me of when back in 2019 there were lots of posts on r/Horror about how great of a horror TV show Chernobyl is because it has these scary scenes and horrifying prosthetics and make-up, seemingly not caring that it was based on actual events where actual people died horribly (I'm from central Europe, which is why I guess this hit me even harder). Of course I'm not trying to say that you are wrong in describing Unsane as a horror movie. One, I haven't even seen that film, and two, I understand that you are much more knowledgeable in this and I am. Which is why I'm actually asking you about all of this in the first place. About not only whether movies like Unsane should be considered horror, but also in case they shouldn't be… then what are they? Thriller seems too redundant and drama too general. So is it just a different type of horror… or maybe something entirely different?
