A Look at an Unfinished Script

Hey everyone,

Hope you're doing well! Progress on the next few videos is going really smoothly, with the next one being a franchise video on The Hills Have Eyes that should be out pretty soon. Today though I thought I would share the progress that I made on an older video that I have decided to not revisit.

The way that I often work is a little disorganized. I always have multiple videos that I am working on at the same time and my scripts usually get worked on over a very long period of time. There are even a few that have been in the works for a couple years at this point. This is also what makes it unpredictable to me usually as to what the next video is going to be. For instance, I made the thumbnail for the Return to Oz video on October 4th of 2019, but that video didn't actually come out until January 22nd of 2021.

So with this process I inevitably sometimes will lose interest in a project and abandon it. It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes it does. So today I thought I would share what my scripts often look like when I’m in the middle of figuring out what a video is about if anyone wanted to see how that worked for me. This one in particular I mentioned in my section of the Lovecraft video, and was to be titled The Horror of Loneliness. What you’ll find here is a very rough unfinished first draft of that script including a lot of my usual weird habits at this stage in the process including unfinished sentences and half started ideas. I envisioned this as a pretty long project talking about a lot of different works of media that would cover a lot of different types of the idea of what it means to be lonely. That didn’t happen here. But you can see me starting to get to that place before I decided I didn’t want to work on this anymore. If this is your sort of thing then I hope you enjoy a look into my writing process. Thanks again for everything.

I think a lot of us have felt the pressure of isolation during the pandemic. In the beginning of 2020, when lockdown first began, there was definitely a surge of Bemisitis - people who had "time enough at last" to do what they'd always told themselves to do. Read that book, watch that film, learn to knit or paint or bake bread, try going vegan, take a daily jog around the block. But as the months wore on, we all felt the psychological toll of loneliness. It wore us down, and we just ... couldn't keep throwing energy into new endeavors. Without people, we didn't have energy to spare. The link to Eraserhead would have been an interesting thread to explore. Many people find themselves initially isolated by parenthood - the first people in a friend group to have a baby often find themselves living in a world where they and their old friends no longer have time for one another. Even if they try, their schedules and mindframes are shifted slightly - they occupy subtly different universes. It makes that first year of parenthood very, very hard and lonely. What a great topic. I can understand why it would be wearying to continue to explore it for months on end, right now, though.
