A few quick updates, and an outline for the rest of the year

Hey everyone!

A few quick updates. I’m sorry that there was no video to finish off that month of videos project I was doing. I tried really hard to fix it but it just fell apart in my hands and I no longer felt very comfortable or confident in publishing it so I dropped that and have moved on to my next project which is what I want to talk about here.

This next video on conservative figures in horror is among the most personally complicated projects I have ever taken on, and has gotten substantially more like a tightrope in the past couple of weeks because of some discoveries I’ve made when researching an individual. It is the kind of thing where I’m really having to go over it to make sure that I have receipts for every claim I make, and that the phrasing of certain  sections is perfect down to the individual wording so as to not leave me open to anything that could come back to harm me. I’m trying to get it together as best and fast as I can, but this is taking more time than I would like. As of right now, it is in between two and three hours of material (about 75 pages long) and I would like to get it out by the end of the month but it might be the  beginning to the middle of June if I’m being more realistic. It is four chapters long, and when I have the first one finished I will post that one here early.

After that, we should have a more fun rest of the year, as that one is more of a serious project at times. My therapist has said that I should not announce projects before I make them because I am bad about getting excited about something and then being disappointed when it doesn’t work out for one reason or another, but I feel comfortable saying that I really do think I can manage this for the rest of the year:

My plan at the moment is a franchise video on Sleepaway Camp, an essay on the movie Bones and All, a non-horror video comparing the movie Priscilla to the movie Elvis and also to the real life events that those stories depict, a history of a monster video, a video on a very weird fringe grifter, and a Jack Frost franchise video. Sleepaway Camp, Bones and All, Jack Frost, and sections of the monster history video are already written, so I feel very confident in saying that I should be able to get these out by the end of the year, because I already have dozens of pages of scripts in the can, and am working with a co-writer on the monster video to make that process easier. I haven’t made those in so long because they take an absurd amount of time to research and write and decided that I still wanted to do them and that this was the best way to make that happen. If this working relationship is successful we plan to do a larger three part series early next year like I did on witches, and so far it is going well and we are getting along.

I know I haven’t been as productive as I once was the past couple of years, but that is largely due to two life events that happened to me in late 2019 that have taken a lot of time from me that have recently resolved themselves- more or less. From late last year I have been genuinely back to making videos again with the same freedom that I haven’t been able to have since 2019, and am getting a lot more work done than I have in the past couple of years and I’m feeling really good about it. Again, I’m really sorry for that last project that fell apart on me, it sometimes happens for reasons that are always hard to explain. I’m really looking forward to doing this, and I’ll see you again soon when I have that first chapter completed.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm still looking forward to the ideas you posted here, even if they take more time to come out! We're here for you!

Be careful, dude. I want to see the video pretty badly too but it feels like your problems with the diet nazis could be a lot worse. Ever think about trying to get in with the Nebula crowd like Lindsey Ellis did so you have a refuge platform and some subscription based income?

Optimus Crimes

I had no idea you had to deal with so much backlash over the HHE review. Glad you kept going, your content is tremendous.

Paul Palmer

Well worth the wait! We know you have good things in store

I’m always excited to see your work, whenever it’s posted and I’ve regularly rewatched videos of yours while working on stuff for myself (or job related drudgery) so, I hope you understand how unique your voice is. Genuinely, I love your angle on media discussions, especially some of the more obscure stuff you talk about. So, I’m pretty jazzed to hear about these new projects. “a non-horror video comparing the movie Priscilla to the movie Elvis” sounds amazing (because goddamn, I have my issues with the glorification of Elvis in that movie) Anyway, endless gushing comment over, just know your videos are always a joy and I’m glad you feel more up to making them than you did before.

Your videos are some of my favorite online, take all the time you need. Excited to see the upcoming stuff, especially the history of a monster video as I love me some good monster movies (and by good I mean entertaining, as I also love bad movies).

John Cleveland

Your videos are so fun and insightful and 100% worth the wait. I would like to echo the others and say I'm positive we all care more about your well being and your satisfaction with your work more than the frequency of content any day. We will be here cheering you on! Also, gonna geek out for just a second... Bones and all, squeeee!!!! *flails with excitement* o(>ω<)o

Crystal C

All good. To echo what others have said I don't care about the frequency and I am always happy to see your output whenever it lands, and whatever it is.

James Ward

You could include the Michael Keaton "Jack Frost" for shits and giggles.

Your essays are art unto themselves. Doesn't matter if there are unexpected delays, we support!

2000ish

Ooo... something got more complicated! All this does is make me want to see what you end up putting out cause the very subject sounds interesting and nothing makes video essays better than complications.

Super excited for the rollout of the year! No matter what happens to any projects we know you’ll always put your best out. I am always impressed with the level of depth and quality that your videos produce. No matter how long it takes or whatever, I know it will be enjoyable.

JB Scott

Hey I'm just glad you seem to being doing better! That upcoming vid sounds great, but please don't keel over trying to make it! I will always hop on in when I see you in my feed wether that's this month or next year! I have been diving back into Nic Cage because I recently watched your video on him again, so thanks for a lovely odyssey!

Jace

It's the depth and quality of your work that I/we enjoy and appreciate, not the speed or frequency of your output. Take as much time as you need, please. It's too hard to find creators capable of thoughtful analysis in this clickbait landscape.

Kevin Day

Whatever you gotta do. I'll support as long as im financially able.

Alex Smith

Better to let something fall apart than put out an unsatisfying effort. You’re doing great, looking forward to the next one!

Chris Sherman

oh ok sounds good. That's got me thinking about Laid to Rest now as i think something similar happened with it

Arcee the Autobot

It will just be on the two movies and the outline of the proposed sequel that never happened. It will be a very light shorter video. Projects in November and December historically never do well for most YouTubers because folks are very busy in that time of year and have less disposable time on their hands. So it will just be a fun little one. You are right though that my rule is typically that there has to be at least three movies for it to get a franchise video.

In Praise of Shadows

Wait how would a Jack Frost franchise video even work as there's only two films so isn't really anything more than a duology? Is it just those two making a shorter video, or are family friendly films included too? Just curious

Arcee the Autobot

No worries at all! Take the time you need. You make such good content that it’s worth the wait, however long that may be.
