Extended Progress Update: February 3 2023
Added 2023-02-03 13:30:13 +0000 UTCHello Returning Visitors!
Hopefully, youβre doing well and arenβt lost in the woods somewhereβ¦
The Fernweh Saga: Book Oneβs one month anniversary is only two days away. π²π₯Ί I feel like the time flew past me, though I believe that is thanks to many of you engaging with me, sharing your thoughts, and taking the time to interact with each other while exploring the story. Itβs been a really great experience, so thank you for staying with me and offering support as we continue.
Speaking of continuing, we should get into how Book Two is going!
Right now, my intention is to have the same (unlucky number 13) amount of chapters. β¬π Iβm noticing that the chapters are tending to be longer as I move forward, partially due to the scope of the plot points, but also because of the level of variation that Iβm adding by calling on variables. (Book Twoβs Introduction is about 3 times longer than Book One's.) This is primarily due to scenes that trigger based on your MCβs current choices along with past choices/stats.
When I grant early demo access for certain Patreon tiers, I will likely include a few tips about how to uncover the various scenes, though Iβm sure many of you will enjoy exploring.
Something Iβve been having fun with in this book is the ability to make nods to past RO moments you may have experienced while giving options for you to explore those tentative feelings/bonds. I couldnβt do this too early in Book One, since you were still meeting and learning about the characters; now, I can! π Or at least, I can give you the opportunity to be flirty with J as soon as they call you on the walkie talkie in Chapter 1. Having that past history thanks to Book One is something Iβm sincerely enjoying incorporating into Book Twoβit creates links between your two playthroughs that will hopefully make everything feel more real.
I know Iβm supposed to be a little vague about things in these updates; itβs hard when I tend to ramble. XD The scene I just wrapped up involved the MCβs W-given nickname coming into play and tailoring how they interact with you in the Fernweh Diner. It will be interesting for replays.
[Spoilers Ahead!]
Hereβs an excerpt from Book Two:
"Hey, ass-hat, come out!" Your shout fails to provoke any reaction as it faintly echoes along the shop fronts, losing its combative edge within seconds. You resist the urge to hurl a piece of loose gravel at a cluster of trash cans to try and force the sicko out. "Try this again and see what happens."
Some MCs really be like: (ΰΈ β’Μ_β’Μ)ΰΈ and ready to throw down when needed.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend! π

Aw, this is precious! π₯Ίπ₯° I'm always touched to learn more about readers' MCs; it can inspire some of the choice options within the book, and it brings me joy!

2023-02-04 14:40:56 +0000 UTCI agree with you 110%! π It's something I enjoy incorporating even if it does add more coding and variable-mapping since I hope it makes the story feel tailored and more realistic. No worries! It's rewarding to see how it can all come together. π

2023-02-04 14:31:51 +0000 UTCIt's been fun writing some feisty lines; the Book Two MC is valid if they kind of want to be done with Fernweh's special brand of creepy. Same! I'm truly so proud (respectfully) of even just the Introduction of this book because of those links/variable callbacks. I hope to continue to improve the reading experience for you all. π

2023-02-03 20:42:44 +0000 UTCAh I love it when IFs manages to have callbacks to previous choices, it really adds to the replay value and definitely make everything feel more personal. Probably a bit of a headache to code if there's a lot of it, but your sacrifice is much appreciated! ;)
