Web DM Podcast 215 with Rudy Basso!

This week, Jim is joined by Rudy Basso, one of our favorite folks on the scene! Emma is sick this week, and he stepped up to the plate! Rudy edits this podcast for us, he ran our fantastic TORG game and our Alien RPG game on Twitch and YouTube, he helped us win The Big Bad, and he's a designer who's gonna be appearing in MCDM's Arcadia in a month or two and other super secret projects we can't talk about. He's an amazing person and we're so happy to work with him and make his debut here. Enjoy the pod!

Time stamps:

5:01 - Ridge R: After watching the Pendragon games and thoroughly enjoying the story and system. How would you go about adding a mechanic like the Traits, Virtues and Passions to D&D? Or if that system may be too restrictive for D&D, what would be a good approach to draw upon those elements in normal D&D play?

12:08 - Eric Smith: As a player, have you ever had an experience where your PC's mechanics allowed you to succeed too easily or without much excitement?

18:30 - Caleb:  I was wondering how much you let your party's actions affect the strength of factions, kingdoms, etc? And if the factions are affected how do you like to quantify it?

25:09 - Geoff DeWitt: What is a campaign premise you're excited to pitch today?

31:24 - Ginge: How would you handle an ODST from Halo-style orbital insertion, where you have a drop pod inserting under AA fire with chances of drop pod failure in addition to the very slim odds of getting hit?

34:50 - Lucas de Camargos: (paraphrased) I am in a D&D game where the DM calls for lots of skill checks, and by doing so sometimes takes away my character's agency and personal growth. I would love to play a more interactive game with less checks, but am unsure of how to bring this up to my group in a diplomatic way. Do you have any advice?

42:51 - Lee Rowan-Buckley: I'm about to start running a Dresden Files Accelerated game for me and my wife set in Bucharest. I've not run for a single player game before, nor in a modern setting, nor in a real world location I know nothing about. Help!

49:02 - Juan C. Rodriguez: What's y'all's feelings on solo games?

52:09 - Gabe P.: Given the items of an elf's skull, an eye-sized mother of pearl, and an eerie painting of a cat on an ornate desk, can you connect the 3 items as clues in a mystery adventure?
