Adventures in Color Correction #1

Until recently, Web DM primarily used Panasonic DSLR Cameras (GH3, GH4) for B & C CAM and a Panasonic AG-AF100 for A CAM.

This last batch of shows (the first of which airs this Wednesday) continues to use the AF100 for A CAM, but we moved to a pair of Black Magic Pocket cameras for B and C CAM.

And these little bastards are tricky. They absolutely murder batteries, the file sizes are nothing to sneeze at (but we have always had to deal w that on B&C) and they shoot very gray, flat images that require color correction.

The good news is that they build these things to bring back an image with enough information and latitude that color correction is pretty straightforward, and that's true for the most part. I feel good about the above image. He is pretty shiny (this is why there are makeup people), but some of that can be brought down by adjusting the white levels. He's a little red, I'm going to play with that. But for the most part, I like what we are seeing here.

My goal with these new shows is to take everything up a notch, especially the consistency show-to-show. The audio turned out great (when there chairs weren't creaking, which was only an issue on day one, and we are dealing with it) and the color consistency across all three shots is looking great.
