This old book is bound in dark brown leather and has a drawing of a black cat with glowing red eyes on its cover. When found, the book contains the following spells, which are wizard’s spells for you while you are attuned to the book: arcane eye, true seeing, borrowed knowledge, detect thoughts, fear, mirror image, and mental prison. It functions as a spellbook for you.
While you are holding the book, you can use it as a spellcasting focus for your wizard spells. The grimoire has 3 charges, and it regains 1d3 expended charges daily at dawn. You can use the charges in the following ways while holding it:
Copycat. Once a day, as a reaction to seeing a spell being cast, you can expend a charge and speak this book’s command word to activate this ability. If it is of a spell level you can prepare, the details of the spell you saw appear in the book in glowing red letters, and you learn all the information you need to know to be able to cast the spell. The spell counts as a wizard spell to you, and you can prepare it just like your other spells.
Quick learner. If you spend 1 minute studying the book, you can expend 1 charge to replace one of your prepared wizard spells with a different spell in the book.
Fast eye. When you have to make a saving throw to resist a spell that you know, and it’s written in this book, you roll the test with advantage.
