As others have mentioned, the professor character in this episode is a parody of Robin Williams’ character in Dead Poets Society… but I wanted to add that the actor playing him is John Michael Higgins, who was the voice actor for Varrick on Legend of Korra. I really love the way they hit a more earnest and emotional note with the Abed plotline in this episode, even while working in the usual absurdity on the way. It’s what sold me on the show after two so-so episodes.
